LETTER: Late Mayor's Wife Says Tierney Fights for Middle-Class Families

Jackie Torigian, wife of the late Peabody Mayor Peter Torigian, explains why she supports John Tierney for another term in Congress.

Dear Editor:

My late husband, former Mayor Peter Torigian, valued hard work and integrity. He recognized John Tierney’s principles, ideals, and his dedication to public service. As Mayor my husband always stood by John and threw his grassroots support behind John’s campaigns. John Tierney and my husband worked as a team to get results for Peabody.

This year, I am proud to stand with John because he has always stood up for us. John has fought hard for seniors to make sure that they can retire with dignity and will continue to protect Medicare and Social Security. In Congress, John has fended off right-wing attacks to privatize these critical programs. He has a record of fighting for middle-class families and doing the right thing for the people in Peabody.

John understands the needs of our community because he has always been accessible and listens to our concerns. John’s uncle Jim served as a city councillor, John fully understands and supports the city of Peabody. He is a caring person and has never forgotten where he came from. Elections have consequences, and we need to make sure that we re-elect John Tierney who will never stop putting our families first.

John has my full support in this campaign, because he is a man of integrity and honesty. John knows what is important and we could not have a better advocate on our side. There is a clear choice in this election between supporting Tierney and keeping our community moving forward or sliding backwards with the extreme elements of the Republican Party. I strongly urge you to join me in voting for John Tierney on November 6th!

You have got to be kidding me. This man is a disgrace to the area and does nothing but harm this country. Perhaps you haven't been paying attention to his voting record and his lack of accomplishments over the past few years... Perhaps you are somehow not considering the country as a whole. I can tell you I would never vote for pockets Tierney again (alas, I did at one point early on). NEVER AGAIN ... I pay attention and it is vital that this man be retired, the sooner the better.

Well that seals it for me. Richard Tisei gets my vote for sure now.
