Obituary: Randolph “Randy” W. Michallyszyn, 68

Randolph “Randy” W. Michallyszyn, 68, died peacefully while surrounded by family on Wednesday morning April 16, 2014 at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center Hospital in Burlington following an extended illness.

Born in Salem, he was the son of the late Michael and Edna (Haun) Michallyszyn. He grew up in Peabody and was among the first class to graduate from Bishop Fenwick, Class of 1963. He later attended Salem State College.

Mr. Michallyszyn was an owner/operator of Potatoes, Etc., a fruit & produce company based in Ipswich. He later worked for SS Pierce Company of Peabody, before retiring in 1987.

Randy, who was also known as “Bunny,” was a gifted athlete who lettered in baseball, basketball, and football while at Fenwick, earning him the yearbook title “Most Athletic.” He enjoyed social card games and was a Lifetime Member of the B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge 1409 of Peabody. He was a voracious reader, keeping up on the news and current events, and always reached out to all of his family to keep them informed. He was a very giving and generous man, and had a large heart always helping others in a totally selfless manner. He was most passionate about his family and cherished granddaughter, Samantha, and he will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him.  

He is survived by a daughter Kristin Brosofsky and her husband Rob of Chelmsford; one granddaughter Samantha Brosofsky; his former spouse and lifelong friend Margaret Blackmon of Concord;  three brothers, John and his wife Cam Michallyszyn of Chelmsford, Joe Michallyszyn of Salem, and Frank Michallyszyn of Ipswich;  two sisters Cathy and her husband George Trainor of Peabody and Lianne Feener of Tewksbury, as well as an extended family of many wonderful, loving nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

Friends and relatives are kindly invited to gather on Tuesday April 22, 2014 at 10 a.m. from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church, Peabody, with burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. A visitation will be held on Monday from 4-8 p.m. in the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, and organization Randy contributed to for many years.
