OBITUARY: Myde Stocker

Myde C. (Spencer) Stocker died on Monday after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. She was 59. A memorial service will be held Friday, followed by a funeral on Saturday.

Myde C. (Spencer) Stocker, 59, of Peabody, devoted wife of Richard W. Stocker, died with her family at her side at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston on March 5, 2012 after a lengthy and courageous battle with Multiple Myeloma.

Myde was born in Panama City, Fla. on Dec. 28, 1952, the daughter of Irvin Spencer and the late Ruth (Hart) Walters. She was raised in Peabody and graduated from , Class of 1970. She
pursued her education and received an associates degree in secretarial science in 1972 from Fisher College.

Myde began her work career as a personnel administrator at Itech Corporation of Lexington and Baird Corporation of Bedford until 1979. In 1975, Myde joined the family business as the office manager, a position she presently held. Myde and Dick owned the Oak Birch Inn in Alton Bay, N.H., which she managed from 1979 to 1989.

In addition to her involvement in the family businesses, Myde dedicated her life to making sure that her children were well educated and cared for. In 2010, Myde was honored by the with the Peabody Community Service Award.

She and her husband Dick traveled extensively with family and friends and she enjoyed attending concerts and theater, listening to music, photography and enjoyed going to the beach while summering at their Little Neck cottage in Ipswich. Every winter Myde and Dick would join their numerous friends in St. Maarten as well.

Throughout her life, Myde touched so many people with her contagious and effervescent laughter. Myde will be greatly missed but never forgotten by anyone who had the opportunity of meeting her.

In addition to her husband Dick, with whom she shared 36 years of marriage, and her father of Lady Lake, Fla., Myde is survived by her loving children, Mariel M. Stocker of Billerica and Adam R. Stocker of Peabody; her step brothers, Todd Reynolds of Wyo., Steven Spencer of Colo. and Stanley Spencer of Ariz.; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Theodore R. and Isabelle E. (Lawrence) Stocker of Alton Bay, N.H.; three sister-in-laws, Joanne Gallo and her husband Sam of Gloucester, Margaret Stocker of Manhattan, N.Y. and Brenda Stocker of Olympia, Wash.; a nephew and three nieces, Sam and Julie Gallo and Heather and Richard Michaud, all of Gloucester, Traci and Brad Perkins of Dover, N.H. and Marlie Stocker of Olympia, Wash.; and five great nieces as well as many extended family and countless friends.

The family will receive family and friends on Friday, March 9, from 4-8 p.m. at the , 82 Lynn St., Peabody. Myde’s Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 10, at noon at the , 4 Coolidge Ave., Peabody, with Rev. Caleb Ingersoll officiating.
