Obituary: Judith C. (Callahan) Oleks, 67, Former PVMHS Math Teacher

Judith C. (Callahan) Oleks, 67, of Groveland, formerly of Peabody, died on March 21, 2014 surrounded by family and friends at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers after a courageous three-year fight against cancer. 

She was the loving wife of John T. Oleks, devoted mother of Christopher D. Oleks and his wife Beth of Topanga, CA and Daniel J. Oleks and his wife Alison of New York City.

Youngest child of the late Daniel Callahan and Helen (Maskaskas) Callahan of Peabody. Cherished sister of four siblings, Daniel Callahan of Delaware, Edward Callahan of North Reading, Ann Foster of Peabody, and Helen Callahan of Danvers. Also survived by loving nieces and nephews and was a consummate friend to many.

Dedicated educator who constantly encouraged individuals to pursue their educational goals to the utmost. Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics, Salem State College; Master of Science degree in Computer Science, University of Massachusetts, Lowell; and Doctorate of Education, University of Massachusetts, Boston.

Dr. Oleks began her career in education as a teacher of math at Peabody Veterans Memorial High School, and then moved to Bunker Hill Community College where she was Dean of the Computer Science Department, and she concluded her career at Hagerstown Community College in Maryland as Vice President of Academic Affairs.

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday March 25 from 4 until 8 p.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody.  Her Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home. 

In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made in memory of Judith to support the Dr. Ursula Matulonis Research Fund and/or the Early Drug Development Program at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA02284.  Gifts may also be made to support the Kaplan Family Hospice House, 78 Liberty Street, Danvers, MA 01923.
