Monday Essentials: Yard Waste Pickup, Leather Crafts and ConCom

Here's what you need to know to get your week started in Peabody.

Today is Monday, July 22. Here's a look at the week ahead in Peabody.

  1. Yard Waste: Due to popular demand, the city has scheduled one more week of curbside yard waste collection. It will be picked up on your regular trash day July 22-26.
  2. Farmers Market: The Peabody Farmers Market opened for the season last week. It runs every Tuesday in front of City Hall from 1-6 p.m.
  3. It's another busy week at the library: The next concert in the Music at Eden's Edge series is Monday night with HighJinks and SummerScapes: String Trios, Bassoon Quartets and Assorted Escapades. The chamber music ensemble is 7-8:30 p.m. in the Sutton Room at the Main Branch. There's also books and bingo, LEGO builders, search and rescue dogs, summer lunches and more this week. Check the library events calendar here.
  4. Discover your inner leatherworker: The Leatherworkers Museum has a free arts and crafts session Tuesday (10 a.m.). You can learn some of Peabody's history while fashioning some leather crafts.
  5. ConCom: The Conservation Commission will meet Wednesday night (7 p.m.) in the basement conference room at City Hall. Among the items on the agenda are a continued public hearing for Robert DeNisco's proposed redevelopment of the old L. Fine factory and a new hearing on a Notice of Intent for construction of the new middle school. Other items include enforcement orders issued to three property owners with land abutting Goldthwaite and Proctor brooks. The city says large sections of the respective retaining walls have fallen into serious disrepair.

And one other thing: you can read all the way to Fenway this summer. The Peabody Institute Library is holding its annual summer reading raffle for adults and the prizes are tickets to a Red Sox game, a Starbucks gift card and a Kindle Fire. The drawing is Aug. 12.
