Mark Your Calendar for the Higgins Spelling Bee

The 4th Annual Higgins Middle School/Peabody Education Foundation Spelling Bee will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 12 outside Burtons Restaurant in the Northshore Mall.

Thirty-one members of the Higgins Spelling Team from the sixth, seventh and eighth grade will compete to determine the spelling champ who will move on to the Regional Spelling Bee in Lynn in March.

Each member of the team is presented with a Gift Bag from merchants at the Northshore Mall and are treated to a pizza dinner prior to the Bee.

Families of spelling bee members may use a discount coupon made available by the Mall to eat at Cheesecake Factory, PF Changs, Legal Sea Foods, Burtons or Scosso restaurants.

Peabody Access Telecommunications (PAT) will record the event to air on Channel 8.  PAT is also selling DVD copies of the event.

There will be a Silent Auction underway during the Spelling Bee.  Proceeds will benefit the Higgins Library and provide for a renewal of Visual Thesaurus software and and upgrade to vocabulary.com.

Higgins Principal Todd Bucey serves as Beemaster with Mayor Ted Bettencourt and PEF member and City Councilor Tom Gould.  Judges for the event are: PEF President and City Councilor Dave Gravel, PEF volunteers Jeri Terenzoni, Steve Shea and Sudi Smoller.

The Spelling Bee is made possible in part through a Best Bet Grant awarded by the Peabody Education Foundation.
