'Wheels for Neal': Fundraising Drive for Peabody Man With Multiple Sclerosis
Peabody resident Neal Truesdale, 51, has Multiple Sclerosis and is confined to a wheelchair. A fundraising drive is underway to help his family buy a wheelchair accessible van.
Fifty-one-year-old Peabody resident Neal Truesdale is confined to a wheelchair or motorized scooter these days and that presents a real challenge -- and hazard at times -- trying to get in and out of a regular car.
What he needs is a wheelchair accessible van and other mobility equipment, which are expensive. So there's a fundraising effort now underway via GoFundMe to try and raise $60,000 for that purpose.
Truesdale was diagnosed in 2001 with Multiple Sclerosis, a degenerative autoimmune disease that affects the central nervous system. He eventually had to step down from his teaching position at the Pingree School in South Hamilton in 2009 when work became "virtually impossible" and rely on his wife Susan as a primary caregiver and breadwinner for the family.
