Cosmetology Program Hopes to Send Students to NY Beauty Expo

The cosmetology program at Peabody High is raising funds to help offset the cost of an upcoming student trip to New York for a professional beauty expo and some "real world experience."

Cheryl English says she's hoping to give her cosmetology students some real world experience at the New York International Beauty Show next spring, but in order to get there, some students need some financial help.

English is the head of the vocational cosmetology program at Peabody Veterans Memorial High School and she's created a gofundme page to gather donations for the trip.

All told, it's about $500 per student and she says that will be a hardship for some students and their families to pay.

"Students who have chosen a career in cosmetology have a myriad of career options available to them. To enhance their education, it is important to get out of the classroom and have some 'real world' experiences," English writes.

She says the aspiring beauticians would be able to explore the industry and lear from of the most respected experts in the field at the expo in March.

English hopes to raise a total of $3,100 in order to offset the cost per student by $100.

"It’s a charitable industry filled with generous people. Your stylist is always 'hair' for you, please be hair for our students!" she writes.

Cosmetology at PVMHS is a two-year program that leads toward professional licensure for graduates.
