Steel Magnolias - A staged reading

A staged reading of Robert Harling's Steel Magnolias will be performed at Salem State University November 14, 15, and 16. Professor Celena Sky April directs.

Harling's enduring story of female friendship is told with an irresistible mix of laughter and tears. The action takes place in Truvy's hair salon in Chinquapin, Louisiana, where all the ladies who are "anybody" come to have their hair done. The women who gather here let their hair down, literally and figuratively. Their deep bond is formed over life's joys and sorrows which they embrace with gossip, laughter, and unconditional love for one another.

The cast includes faculty members from various departments at the university including: Amy Everitt, professor of Sports and Movement Science as Truvy Jones, Michelle Pierce, professor of Education as Clairee Belcher and Elizabeth Hart, professor of Speech Communication as M'Lynn Eatenton. They are joined by alumna Jenney Dale as Shelby Eatenton and Maryanne Truax as Annelle Dupuy-Desoto along with Patricia Zaido as Ouiser Boudreaux. Zaido is Executive Director of the Salem Partnership and a retired member of the Salem faculty.

Admission is a donation at the door. Suggested donated is $25. All proceeds will benefit the programs of Salem State's Center for Creative and Performing Arts (CCPA). Reserve seats in advance by calling 978.542.6290. Seating is limited.
