"Restoring Light": Jewish Life before the Holocaust" A Yad Vashem Shoah Victims Names Recovery Project event

On January 27, International Holocaust Remembrance Day, The North Shore will be among cities and communities around the world who have joined Yad Vashem, the Holocaust remembrance and education center in Jerusalem, in its effort to identify the names and identities of the 6 million Jews murdered in the Holocaust by filling out Pages of Testimony for each victim.

Aviv Centers for living in Peabody will hold an event to bring together those who can fill out Pages of Testimony and those interested in learning more about the past called "Restoring Light": Jewish Life before the Holocaust" where they are proud to present home movies from before the Holocaust. Presented by Leslie Swift who has worked at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum for 15 years, “Projections of Life” is a 30 minute compilation of edited clips from the home movie collections of the Steven Spielberg Film and Video Archive at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. These unique films illustrate the vibrancy and diversity of prewar Jewish life across Europe and provide an extraordinary glimpse into a lost world. This includes a discussion with Toni Treadway about how these old films are restored. Toni Treadway has restored old movie film for 35 years with Bob Brodsky. The team received a Silver Light award from the Association of Moving Image Archivists in 2008 for their life work as advocates of "home movies" as cultural treasures.

After this presentation we will discuss The Shoah Victims Names Recovery Project and will have volunteers available to assist family members and loved ones to fill out pages of testimony so that no Holocaust Victim will ever be forgotten.

The names of millions of victims remain unknown, and time is running out. We need your help to complete this historic task. Please join us on January 27th at 2:30pm at Aviv Centers for Living.
