Award-winning and internationally
renowned poet Rhina Espaillat will read works from visual artist and poet Yala
Korwin’s To Tell the Story and Crossroads.  The readings show the darkness of Ms.
Korwin’s days as a child of the Holocaust, then move us to reveal her capacity
for optimism and humor. Korwin’s visual art will be displayed and discussed.

Academy Award Winning
documentary short, “The Lady in Number 6: Music Saved My Life” will also be
aired as part of the program. Until her very recent death at 110 years old, Alice Herz Sommer was the
world’s oldest living Holocaust survivor (Theresienstadt) as well as the
world’s oldest concert pianist. This film tells the story of her remarkable
courage, her love of life, her capacity for forgiveness, and her enduring passion
for music.

Following the program,
attendees may fill out Pages of Testimony to remember those who perished in the
Holocaust.  Those names and their
information will be entered into the Names Recovery Project at Yad Vashem
Memorial Museum in Israel.  Aviv’s social work staff will be available to
help people complete the forms.
