The general election in Peabody is Nov. 5. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. - 8 p.m.

This is one of nine Q&As with the candidates running for an at-large seat on the Peabody City Council. The general election is Tuesday, Nov. 5.

  • Name: Thomas Gould
  • Age: 58
  • Occupation: Owner of Treadwell's Ice Cream
  • Political office: City Council, 2 years (At-Large, 2012 - present)

Peabody Patch: If elected to the City Council, what issue would be first priority for you? What is one area you would like to see the city devote more resources to?

Tom Gould: I would like the city to continue to concentrate on bringing businesses to Peabody whether that be downtown or Centennial Park. It's important that we keep the tax rate low while providing the people of Peabody with good, quality services.

Patch: Peabody property taxes continue to be among the lowest in the area, along with many other fees homeowners or residents may pay in the city. Are taxpayers' getting their money's worth; is the city not spending enough to provide services, education, etc; or are Peabody taxpayers still paying too much?
Gould: I believe we have to keep the tax rate in line while continuing to provide the residents with quality services. This can be done with continued focus on how we do business as a city. Focus on cutting waste where possible while combining services. This should continue to be a priority of the council. Peabody is a great place to live and raise a family and with the positive things going on here, Peabody will become an even better place in the years to come!

Patch: Under the current mayor's administration there has been a concentrated effort to reinvigorate "pride in Peabody," which many people in the city have rallied around. What is one thing you are proud of about Peabody?
Gould:  I am proud of the many good things that are going on in Peabody! I concentrate on the positives and deal with the negatives when they come up. The momentum that is going on right now is something that I am extremely proud of because I feel I have contributed to this positive change!
