Spiliotis: Voice of the People

What are your memories of Joyce Spiliotis?

State Rep. Joyce Spiliotis died early Thursday morning at her Peabody home, surrounded by family. She was 65.

Spiliotis, who lived her entire life in Peabody, was a popular representative with her constituents and regarded as a tireless advocate for their concerns. She served as a Library Trustee and city councilor and was first elected to the Mass. House of Representatives in 2002. Spiliotis had just won her sixth term earlier this month.

"I have known Joyce as a caring friend and trusted colleague for many years. As a city councilor and state representative, Joyce was a tireless advocate for her constituents. Her determination on their behalf was the hallmark of her career in public service – one which leaves a lasting legacy," said Mayor Ted Bettencourt.

Our thoughts and prayers go out today, to the family and friends of a remarkable woman. Although Joyce’s presence and her sincere smile will without doubt be missed, her tireless efforts surely left our world a little better.
