5 Things to Know for Christmas Day 2012

Today is Tuesday, Dec. 25. Here are five things to know today in Peabody for Christmas.

  1. Christmas at the Haven: The city's food pantry Haven from Hunger is serving up Christmas Dinner for free for anyone in need of a meal today at noon and there will be presents and Santa as well.
  2. Don't forget, flu season is coming early this year. And if you're considering getting a flu shot, click here for some places in Peabody that offer the vaccine (besides your own doctor, of course).
  3. Gas Prices: Here are some of the lowest unleaded gas prices around Peabody, according to Mapquest: $3.32 today at Hess and Gaeta's Gulf at 153 Newbury St. and 136 Newbury St.
  4. PVMHS boys' varsity basketball hosts North Shore Tech/Essex Aggie on Thursday (7 p.m.). The Tanners (0-4) are still looking for a win this season. The girls' team, 3-0, is on a run and travels to Everett Thursday (7 p.m.).
  5. And in ice hockey, the Tanners (0-1-1) host Newton North Thursday (1 p.m.) at the McVann-O'Keefe Rink, Concord-Carlisle on Dec. 31 (noon) and then Salem State Jan. 2 to play Danvers in the Mike Clifford Memorial Game (6:20 p.m.). Meanwhile, the girls' co-op team (1-4) takes on the Beverly/Danvers co-op Wednesday at Salem State (12:30 p.m.), then hosts Cambridge/Somerville Saturday (2 p.m.) before hosting Brookline Jan. 2 (5:15 p.m.).
