'Where Every Dog is a Lucky Dog'

Longtime Peabody residents Robert and Joanne Capone have opened a new doggy daycare business.

Welcome to our business spotlight, where we get to know a local business owner a little better. If you're a business owner and would like to be featured in this column, email john.castelluccio@patch.com.

This week we're chatting with Peabody resident Robert Capone, who just opened Lucky Dogs Daycare with his wife Joanne. The new canine daycare is located at 6 Bourbon St. behind  and the Capones are planning to hold a grand opening soon.

  • Q: Tell us a little bit about your new business and your background.
  • A: As avid “dog lovers” our family has cared, nurtured and pampered our dogs for over 25 years. With two dogs of our own and six dogs through our extended family, our home was always a dog’s home away from home. Every Sunday our extended family gathers at our house for dinner and we sometimes have up to seven dogs in our home at one time. That is why we decided to start Lucky Dogs Daycare. Our family and friends always knew their dogs were welcome at our home when they visited.
  • Q: What led you to want to open up shop in Peabody?
  • A: Why not Peabody? Peabody is our home and where our friends and family live. There is a definite need for our city to have a daycare where our clients can feel confident that their dog is safe and happy. Our daycare will only accept dogs up to 45 pounds and the little ones will be in a separate play area from the larger dogs.
  • Q: What's your take on the local business climate in the city?
  • A: I think Peabody has a strong climate for local businesses. Hopefully people will come visit our site and get to know us. This will be a family business and their pets will be treated like part of our family. We can’t take the place of mom and dad, but we will be the best surrogate for their dog.
  • Q: What else are you involved with locally?
  • A: When the kids were younger I was actively involved in coaching for my son and daughter. My wife taught religious education classes for eight years at St. Adelaide’s in Peabody.
  • Q: And lastly, as you're preparing to open, what’s one piece of advice you would give to someone contemplating opening their first business?
  • A: Do your research ahead of time and “go for it.”
