Possible Salmonella Contamination Yields Mango Recall at Stop & Shop

Stop & Shop has taken Daniella mangos off its shelves due to possible salmonella contamination.

A voluntary recall by Splendid Products was announced on Aug. 27 by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration.

Peabody is home to one , located downtown at 26 Howley St.

The recall encompasses the following product, purchased between July 12 and Aug. 24:

• Daniella mangos, PLU 4959

Stop & Shop says that no illnesses have been reported in the United States, although some have been reported in Canada and are connected to the recall. Customers who purchased those brand mangos are urged to discard any unused portions and bring their receipt to Stop & Shop for a full refund.

Consumption of food contaminated with salmonella can cause salmonellosis, one of the most common bacterial foodborne illnesses. Salmonella infections can be life‐threatening, especially to those with weak immune systems, such as infants, the elderly and persons with HIV infection or undergoing chemotherapy.

The most common manifestations of salmonellosis are diarrhea, abdominal cramps and fever within eight to 72 hours. Additional symptoms may be chills, headache, nausea and vomiting that can last up to seven days.
