North Shore Food Buzz: Sad News If You Love Pierogi, Beverly's Newest Bar and More

A round up of North Shore restaurant and food news.

When you're looking for a night out and a break from cooking, you might want to know what's new not just where you live, but in other nearby North Shore communities.

Here's our round up of the latest food news:

Salem

Sad news for fans of pierogi and Gypsy pancakes: Cafe Polonia will be closing its doors soon. Having just moved to Salem and only eaten there twice, I know I'll miss the Polish and Eastern European restaurant. If you've never been, I recommend you go before it's gone for good. I was especially impressed with the beet soup.

Danvers

Self-serve frozen yogurt has come to downtown Danvers. You pick your own flavors and toppings at Orange Leaf Frozen Yogurt. One 12-year-old who came in just after they opened made his with 1.5 pounds of froyo. The owner said he offered the kid a second one just as big if he could finish it. He ate 'em both.

Marblehead

Hamilton

It's always good to hear about local businesses expanding. That's the story out of Jolie Tea Co. in downtown Hamilton. They're adding seating and will serve the teas they sell.

Beverly

A new bar just opened along Cabot Street. I haven't been yet, but the selection of beer and whiskey sounds promising. Here's .

Andover

The North Shore Food Buzz radar doesn't just pick up restaurant openings when they happen. We'll tell you months in advance when we can. Exhibit 1: Andover will be getting a new Thai restaurant come March. The woman behind One Thong Chai Thai Cuisine, Apple Tomamichel, is an experienced restaurateur, as she already has a location in Fitchburg.

Lynnfield

If the huge MarketStreet in Lynnfield development isn't on your radar as a North Shore shopper and diner, it should be. The massive complex will have many attractions when it opens in late 2013. Among them, we learned last week, is that the Whole Foods there will sell beer and wine.

North Andover

"Put your fire on the cooker, and get your chili ready. 'Cause before you know it, it's gonna be tomorrow night." As a former Texan, I can't help but quote Gary P. Nunn's ode to the dish. Up in North Andover, food writer Jay Oza has the lowdown on three spots to get that town's best chili.
