No Longer iParty, But Party City

The party goods retail chain has taken on a new name under a recent corporate merger.

After 14 years the partying has been kicked up a notch, at least in name, at iParty.

The struggling party goods retail chain based in Dedham was acquired in a merger with Party City this past spring for less than $11 million.

All 54 stores in New England and Florida were due to be switched over to the Party City name this fall.

Party City, based in New Jersey, operates 750 company and franchise stores across the country and the recent deal gives it a significant presence now in New England.

The local store for Peabody is over at the plaza at 300 Andover St. and by all indications, not much is changing for customers other than the name.

"It has been our pleasure over the last 14 years to have helped you celebrate life’s special occasions. It’s been great fun. We’re especially grateful for your generosity as you supported so many children’s charities over the years with 'one dollar at a time' register donations," said iParty founders Dorice Dionne and Sal Perisano in a notice to customers in June.

"We are now merging iParty with Party City and by this fall all of our iParty stores will be re-named Party City. What you can count on is more of the same great service and product selection as our stores join the coast to coast Party City brand," they said.
