Those of us who live on the North Shore certainly take advantage of the restaurants not only in the town where we live, but also across the region. So here is our regular roundup of food and restaurant news from the North Shore and the Andovers:

Peabody, Salem and Lynnfield

If you live in any of these three communities, you can help Haven From Hunger, our region's biggest soup kitchen/food bank, while getting a free oil change from The Driveway Doctors in Peabody.

Danvers

The new McDonald's across from the Liberty Tree Mall on Endicott Street is unveiling its new late night menu on Friday and raising funds to support a local nonprofit health agency at the same time.

Marblehead

The Phantom Gourmet stopped by The Landing. He especially recommends the fish tacos.

For non-restaurant diners, we can recommend the Peace Pipe Pesto available at farmer's markets from a Marblehead couple who call their business after the First People's name for the area —Massabequash Foods.

Region-wide

Northshore Magazine recently came out with their Best of North Shore edition. Here, sorted by town, is a roundup of restaurants and other food businesses that earned distinction this year:
  • North Andover — Winners include Butcher Boy for best butcher shop.
  • Danvers — Winners include Cakes for Occasions for best cakes.
  • Marblehead — Five Corners Kitchen won for best brunch
  • Peabody — Maki was reader's choice for best sushi
  • Andover — Yella Grille won for best Mediterranean

Lynnfield

This little town was a hotbed of restaurant news, with opening dates announced for the new Whole Foods and Yard House. They are among the many businesses opening soon at MarketStreet at Lynnfield.

North Andover

Food trucks continue to be all the rage. So much so that the North Andover Merchants Association was forced to clarify their stance when some felt it was favoring brick-and-mortar restaurants over their mobile cousins.

Salem

A new Italian restaurant is coming to the Witch City. Firenze, as the name says, will specialize in Florentine cuisine.

Also in Salem, Longboards Cafe & Grill opened on Pickering Wharf.

Swampscott

Swampscott Patch reported on a nice summer tradition in which Red Rock Bistro offers free ice water to beach-goers.
