Deadline is Nov. 18 to Apply for City's 2 Alcohol Licenses

Get your applications in to the Licensing Board by Nov. 18. One restaurant license is for full liquor, the other one is for beer and wine.

Any takers for a couple alcohol licenses? The city of Peabody has one full liquor restaurant license and one beer and wine restaurant license available.

The Licensing Board will be accepting applications through noon on Nov. 18. Any questions should be directed to board chairman Minas Dakos at 978-538-5717.

Board clerk Darryl McCarthy said that as of Friday afternoon, there were only two applicants -- one for the full liquor license and one for the beer and wine license.

The board will review all applications at its Nov. 25 meeting and schedule public hearings from there.

The all-alcohol license was recently turned back in to the board by John Mastrangelo, who had planned to open a pub at the former Fire Bull Restaurant until reaching an impasse with the property owner.

Unlike the high prices licenses often fetch in private sales between business entities, the city's fees for new licenses (or rather annual renewal fees) are $2,250 for an all-alcohol restaurant license and just $1,700 to serve beer and wine.
