Best of Patch: Santoro's for Subs

The family-run downtown shop earns the distinction from Patch of serving up the best subs in Peabody.

The results are in, and the title goes to for dishing up the best subs in Peabody.

Santoro's was the early favorite in the our readers' poll, but then had major competition from . While the Lowell Street shop did end up with more votes (575-469), the downtown fixture (in business for 55 years) won out mainly for the quality of comments from faithful fans.

The selection of the winner is up to the discretion of the team here at Peabody Patch and we thank all those readers who came out to support their favorite places to grab a sub in the Tanner City.

DaleAnne Najarian had this to say about Santoro's: "I love Santoro's. They make the subs how you want them. I also get fresh cut deli meats from them, they are cheaper than most grocery stores plus I don't need to drive."

Longtime fan Joanne Macione said: "I have been eating subs at Santoro's since 1955! We used to ALWAYS get subs from them on Sunday nights when I was a little girl. I LOVE their subs. My favorite back then was 'The Roman Holiday' and today it is the chicken kabob! Thanks for all the many years of delicious subs!!!!"

"Santoro's clearly the best! I miss my walk across the street on a daily basis to get my lunch. Six-foot sandwich at Super Bowl time, key," added Dan Ruane.
