AMC Movie Theater Now Open Again

The AMC Loews movie theater at the Liberty Tree Mall was closed for about four days during the course of this past weekend's blizzard, but is now back open.

The AMC Loews movie theater at the Liberty Tree Mall in Danvers reopened to the public Tuesday night after being closed for about four days during and immediately after this past weekend's blizzard.

A company spokesman confirmed there were storm-related issues that kept the theater closed, but didn't elaborate on what those issues were.

The theater closed at 3 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 8 as the blizzard was moving into Danvers, according to a post on the AMC Facebook page. It did not reopen on Saturday and Sunday and one Danvers Patch user reported that she showed up there with her kids on Monday, when Danvers Public Schools and most other area schools had a snowday, and found it closed.

The metal gate was down and there was a sign posted saying: "We are currently closed due to unforeseen circumstances. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause."

It was the weekend blizzard that dropped about two feet of snow on Danvers from Friday through Saturday that has caused the theater's closure, according to theater officials.

"We're working to reopen due to some issues caused by the storm," said AMC spokesman Ryan Noonan earlier in the week. "We do not have a specific timeline, but we hope to open as soon as possible this week."

Annie Lahey, a Liberty Tree Mall spokeswoman, said the theater is not technically a tenant of the mall but she was told that the theater could reopen as soon as Tuesday afternoon.

While Noonan did not specify what "issues" have caused the closure, at least four other AMC theaters in Massachusetts remained closed on Tuesday "because of excessive snow accumulation," according to a special "Nemo" storm webpage set up by AMC.

Noonan directed customers to check the page to find out when the AMC theater in Danvers will reopen, but the Liberty Tree location is not listed there. It was not immediately clear why it was not included. Other locations that were closed include Boston, Braintee, Burlington and Framingham.
