Peabody Woman Identified as Alleged Carjacker

A 31-year-old Peabody woman is facing multiple charges after allegedly stealing a car from Stop & Shop in Peabody and leading area police on a chase through Salem.

Salem police have identified the woman accused of carjacking a vehicle in Peabody before leading Salem police on a chase through the center of their city Wednesday morning.

Rosa Maria Guarino, 31, of 20 Crane Ave., Peabody, was arrested on charges of failure to stop for police, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, receiving a stolen motor vehicle and operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of drugs.

Guarino is expected to face additional charges in Peabody, Salem police said. 

She was arrested shortly after 11 a.m. near the intersection of North and Essex streets after leading area police on a pursuit from Peabody into Salem, according to scanner reports.

Guarino was arrested by a Marblehead police officer, according to a post on the department's Facebook page

She reportedly stole a red Chevy Prizm from the Stop & Shop in Peabody and fled the scene into Salem, striking at least one vehicle in the process. According to scanner reports, Guarino allegedly attacked the person she stole the car from.

She is expected to be arraigned Thursday morning in Salem District Court.
