Six Patients Evacuated From Lahey Medical Center After Oxygen Leak

An oxygen leak forced the evacuation of the facility for a short time on Sunday evening.

Written and reported by William Laforme and Chris Helms

UPDATE, 8:48 p.m. — An administrator at the Lahey Medical Center said the evacuation of their six overnight patients was a precautionary measure after something went wrong with the building's oxygen supply equipment.

The six patients have been taken to Lahey's location in Burlington and normal activity has resumed at the Peabody facility.

The Peabody fire department ordered the evacuation.

The administrator praised the "exemplary work" of the staff in getting people out. There was never any fire or explosion, simply an equipment malfunction that could have been dangerous.
