Carjacker Allegedly Attacks Victim and Chased by Police Into Salem

The suspect was a white female who was eventually arrested in Salem.

Police arrested a female late Wednesday morning after she allegedly assaulted a person at Stop & Shop in Peabody and stole that person's car.

Police then chased the vehicle, a red Chevrolet Prizm, into Salem near Bridge Street. The car and the driver were eventually apprehended by Salem officers on Essex Street.

During the course of the chase, at least one vehicle was struck by the stolen car, according to scanner reports. 

For about 15 minutes, multiple possible sightings of the car were reported by officers in the area. A confirmed sighting was made on Lafayette Street with the car heading downtown at about 40 mph.

According to scanner reports, the chase continued over to Essex Street and headed down the one-way in the wrong direction before officers stopped the vehicle by the corner of Essex and North streets.

According to scanner reports, officers were also checking the vehicle for narcotics, and meanwhile, the initial scene of the carjacking was under investigation by Peabody police.

The incident was initially reported shortly before 11 a.m.
