Remembering Peabody's Courtney Corning
It has been six years since Peabody teen and standout student-athlete Courtney Corning died in a highway car crash. She was just months away from her high school graduation. A memorial Mass for Corning will be held Jan. 12.
On a somber note for Peabody, today marks the sixth anniversary of a tragic accident in which the city lost one of its standout teen athletes in a highway car accident months before her high school graduation.
Courtney Corning was killed when a friend lost control of the car they were driving in on Route 1 in Revere on Jan. 5, 2007. Corning was 17.
Many of Corning's family, friends and teammates remembered her as a person with a big heart and a passion to excel in competition. One friend posted this video on YouTube in memory of Corning at the time.

A Facebook group is also dedicated to remembering Corning. The family says a memorial Mass will be held at St. John the Baptist Parish on Jan. 12 (4 p.m.).
