Peabody International Festival Celebrates 30 Years in September

The Peabody International Festival is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 8.

The 30th Annual International Festival will be held in Peabody in September, featuring the music, food and arts of various cultures in the city.

The festival, which features a vast cultural mix on one Sunday in September, draws tens of thousands from around the region right to Peabody Square.

This year's event is scheduled for Sept. 8 from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. with three main sites -- Kids Day activities at the Leather City Common and entertainment stages in the square and on Lowell Street.

The We Are America Performers will start the weekend Sept. 6 (7 p.m.) with a patriotic concert, "United We Stand," at City Hall and the annual Progeria Foundation road race is Sept. 7 (8 a.m.) outside City Hall.

Throughout the duration of the festival Sunday, more than 60 tables will line the streets with a large variety of ethnic food choices as well as representing numerous local organizations.

And if you don't eat your fill there, the annual Restaurant Week in Peabody begins that Sunday and runs until Sept. 12 and then Sept. 19-22.

This year's co-chairs are Michael Zellen and Barry Osborne with Mayor Ted Bettencourt serving as honorary chair.

The rain date for the festival is Sept. 22.
