5 Things to Know to Get Your Weekend Started

Toy drive, fundraiser/walk, web blackout and Santa on ice.

Today is Friday, Dec. 21. Here are five things to know today in Peabody.

  1. Students and staff at Higgins Middle School will be holding a fundraiser walk this morning to support the Sandy Hook School community. The walk starts at 9:30 a.m. at Higgins.
  2. Also this morning at 9:30, Patch will join with AOL in a company-wide web blackout as a "moment of silence" to honor the victims of the 
  3. Today is the last day of the Peabody Police Department's annual holiday toy drive. Drop off new, unwrapped toys in the station lobby.
  4. Bring the family down to the McVann-O'Keefe Rink Sunday afternoon for a family skate with Santa Claus.
  5. “Rachel Rome Houpes: A Celebration of Art” is on display now through Jan. 4 in the ArcWorks Community Art Center gallery at 22 Foster St. The free exhibit features oil paintings, acrylics and mixed-media abstract art work by Rachel Rome Houpes. Gallery hours are Tuesday to Friday, noon to 6 p.m., and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
