North Andover, MA. —January 13, 2014 A Little Easier Recovery, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, is pleased to announce it has been granted the  $15,000 Perkins Assistive Technology Prize through MassChallenge. The award allows this non-profit organization to provide proven free programs for patients facing advanced breast cancer diagnosis. Every contribution helps sustain the organization’s growth and allows them to assist patients enduring advanced cancer treatment and recovery.

Generous contributions from organizations like Perkins School for the Blind has given A Little Easier Recovery the opportunity to make the grueling process of cancer treatments and recovery ‘a little easier’ for program participants. The Jacki® Program’s post-surgical garment and Organization System allows patients to do more, feel better, and live a better quality life.

Perkins is committed to providing education, products and services that build productive, meaningful lives for children and adults around the world who are blind, deafblind or visually impaired including those with other disabilities. Perkins, founded in 1829, is internationally recognized as a leader in providing assistive technology through its Perkins Products division.

The Perkins Assistive Technology Prize is enabling A Little Easier Recovery to create an educational brochure in braille to teach those enduring breast cancer how best to use the Jacki Program throughout their treatment and recovery. Today, oncology staff distributes the Jacki® free to breast cancer patients during one-on-one care planning at 77 hospitals in 20 states including Alaska. A Little Easier Recovery has helped over 12,000 breast cancer patients to date.

A Little Easier Recovery is thrilled that Perkins values their cause. According to Maureen Cardinal, Program Director, “We know that all phases of treatment and recovery are difficult. It is an honor and privilege to know we have helped improve the quality of life of patients with Perkins support”.
