Today is Thursday, Jan. 16. Here are five things to know today in Peabody.

  1. It's been a little more than two years since Peabody Police Sgt. Eric Zawacki was struck by a vehicle on Route 1 in December 2011 while working a detail. He was hospitalized, underwent hip surgery and had a long road of physical rehab ahead of him. But he's ready to return to duty now and Thursday will be his first day back on the job. The news was announced Wednesday afternoon via the Police Department's Facebook page. Dozens of well wishers quickly offered their congratulations and words of welcome via Facebook. Deputy Chief Scott Carriere says Zawacki won't be returning to regular duty just yet, however, he still has some re-training and re-certifications to complete first.
  2. Monday is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and that means City Hall and other public offices will be closed for the day.
  3. The Peabody Health Department is offering another free flu shot clinic at City Hall Thursday (3-5 p.m.). No appointments are necessary.
  4. GreenPeabody is hosting a screening of the film "An Inconvenient Truth" on Friday (6:30 p.m.) at the Torigian Center. It's free and the group plans to show two more films over the winter.
  5. Each year, Cranney Home Services in Danvers donates $1,000 per month to local charities nominated by North Shore residents and customers. You can find more details here on how to make a nomination.

Are you for real? He almost died. He was literally run over by a truck on a highway. He is lucky to be alive. You are a crazy s.o.b.

He was run over because he wasn't paying attention to traffic! Police phony details are negotiated by union thugs! They should be out on patrol not sitting in a car with the lights flashing at a work site or standing around talking on a cellphone!
