Sylvan Street Roadwork Continues This Week

Here's what you need to know today in Peabody.

Today is Tuesday, Aug. 13. Here are five things to know today in Peabody.

  1. Roadwork continues this week on Sylvan Street, so if you're heading that way, be prepared for delays or find another route. The construction area stretches from the town line in Danvers down to the plaza with Bagel World. In related news, the stretch of Lowell Street between Northshore Road and Forest Street now has a fresh new coat of asphalt, wrapping up a paving project that began last month.
  2. Any students who want to play or try out for fall sports at Peabody High need to turn in their signed parental permission slips, doctor's physical forms and concussion forms on Wednesday or Thursday this week. Time slots are scheduled for football, field hockey and golf on Wednesday and soccer, volleyball and cross country on Thursday. Tryouts start next week.
  3. No lecture: If you were planning on heading over to the Main Branch Library Wednesday night for that lecture on climate change, it has been canceled, according to the library's online calendar. No future dates were mentioned at the time.
  4. Hospice of the North Shore & Greater Boston is holding a fundraiser Aug. 15 for its annual walk. The benefit will be held at The Atrium in Danvers with Kim Carrigan as emcee for the night.
  5. Parents Night Out is coming up Aug. 16 at the Torigian Family YMCA.
