Space Still Open for Rock Climbing and Other Programs for School Vacation

Here's what you need to know today in Peabody.

Today is Friday, Dec. 20. Here are five things to know today in Peabody.

  1. Want to do some indoor rock climbing to start out your school vacation next week? The Peabody Recreation Department goes climbing Monday at MetroRock in Newburyport and there's still space available to signup. Check www.peabodyrecreation.com for other vacation programs and workshops before school starts again in January.
  2. Nutcracker storytime: Dancers from the Boston Ballet will put on a "Nutcracker"-themed story time for preschoolers at the library on Friday (10 a.m.). You can learn more about ballet performance as well. Registration is required.
  3. Cookies for sale: The Peabody Troop 68009 Brownies and Juniors will be over at Shaw's Saturday, starting at 9 a.m. with boxes of Girl Scout cookies for sale.
  4. Skate with Santa: Kris Kringle will be at the McVann-O'Keefe Skating Rink Sunday for a special event from 2:10-3:40 p.m. with face-painting, balloons by Brian, a free raffle and prizes.
  5. Admission deadlines: If you're planning on enrolling your child(ren) at a local private high school, the admission deadlines are fast approaching. St. John’s Prep, St. Mary’s of Lynn and Bishop Fenwick are all Dec. 20, Nazareth Academy is Jan. 6 and Pingree and Phillips Academy are both Jan. 15.
