Ribbon Cutting Thursday for Carol Papi Playground at the Welch

Here's what you need to know in Peabody today.

Today is Wednesday, Oct. 16. Here are five things to know today in Peabody.

  1. The playground has been in use since it was completed this past spring, but city and school officials are officially cutting the ribbon on the new outdoor play space dedicated to Carol Papi at the Welch School on Thursday. A ceremony is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. followed by refreshments.
  2. The general city election is coming up Nov. 5. If you're not registered to vote yet or need to make some changes with your voter information, you have until Wednesday at 8 p.m. to stop by the City Clerk's office. Absentee ballots are also now available from the clerk's office.
  3. There's a fundraiser for Higgins Middle School going on now through Oct. 30 at Yo'Gut Style at 515 Lowell St. You can pick up a Yo'Gut Style card at the Higgins main office and bring the card to the frozen yogurt shop for a treat. Fifteen percent of the proceeds will then be donated to the Higgins PTO. The winning class will also get a free yogurt party.
  4. This year's Higgins PTO Craft Fair is happening Saturday at the middle school from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. More details here.
  5. The third annual Night at the Races is also Saturday at St. John the Baptist School. Doors open at the gym at 6:15 p.m.
