Peabody Police Cameo on Season Finale of 'Boston's Finest'

Here's what you need to know today in Peabody.

Today is Thursday, Jan. 9. Here are five things to know today in Peabody.

  1. Among a handful of special permit hearings before the Peabody City Council Thursday night are plans to build a new mixed-use development on vacant land off Main Street and a petition for yet another highway billboard -- this one would be next to an office building situated behind Holiday Inn and abutting Route 128. The council meets at 7:30 p.m. in Wiggin Auditorium.
  2. The Peabody Health Department is offering a free flu shot clinic at City Hall Thursday (3-5 p.m.). No appointments are necessary.
  3. Did you happen to watch the season finale of "Boston's Finest" on Tuesday? We understand that Peabody police detectives Eric Ricci and David Murphy, along with Sgt. Vincent Patermo and Officer Brendan O'Brien had cameo appearances in the show.
  4. Speaking of the men and women in blue, two Peabodyites who serve on the Danvers Police Department were recently promoted and will be officially sworn in Thursday night at Danvers High School (6 p.m.). That's Lt. Robert Bettencourt (Mayor Ted Bettencourt's uncle) and Sgt. Olivia Silva.
  5. If you have a live Christmas tree and still need to dispose of it, you can just set it at the curb with your trash. Unlike other surrounding communities, Peabody does not schedule a specific collection day for trees.
