Give Blood Friday With the Red Cross

Today is Thursday, Aug. 1. Here are five things to know today in Peabody.

  1. Peabody Glen Health Care Center and the American Red Cross are holding a community blood drive Friday, Aug. 2 from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. The center is located at 199 Andover St. You can register online at www.redcrossblood.org or call 800-733-2767. All donors also receive a 24 pack of Nice! spring water as well as a coupon for up to 20 percent off at participating Walgreens stores.
  2. Peabody's Randy Suckney is joining Team Lanzoni and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute Aug. 11 for the 41st Annual Falmouth Road Race to help conquer cancer. More details here on how you can support the cause.
  3. Friday is going to be a magical night of family fun at the YThe Torigian Family YMCA is hosting a Magic Show and Movie Night, starting at 7:45 p.m. The movie will be shown outdoors, so bring a lawn chair or blanket with you.
  4. In case you missed it, Mayor Ted Bettencourt will be making a promotion official Thursday at City Hall when longtime Peabody police officer Tom O'Keefe is sworn in as a lieutenant. The ceremony is at 4 p.m.
  5. And don't forget, you can now get a free oil change for the year at the Driveway Doctors in exchange for making a donation to Haven from Hunger's capital campaign.
