The group made green and white ribbons as a show of support and solidarity for the Sandy Hook community.
Drover said that more than 600 ribbons were then handed out to students during school dismissal. Students, staff and faculty were also encouraged by the Peabody PTC to wear green and white clothing for the day.
"I heard back from the Newtown, Conn. Recreation Director via the Peabody Recreation Director, Jen Davis," Drover said. "Jen has been in contact with her and she told her what we were doing yesterday with the green and white ribbons and she said she was overwhelmed by the support from other communities and thanked us."
Drover said teens involved in community service with the Dean's office, Athletic Department, Fernando Braz's classroom and the boys' track team all pitched in to make the ribbons and were joined by Kathy Strange and Assistant Principal Todd Buckley as well.
“In addition to a terrific gesture, the initiative serves as therapy for everyone,” said Braz.
