Last week in the library, five spelling bees were conducted to determine the grade 8 members of the Higgins Spelling Team.

Each cluster identified their top 10 spellers and then came to the library to compete.

The Aquarius spellers are: S. Ghostlaw, N. O’Neil, M. Burke, J. Selden, A. Liatrou, M. Shapiro, S. Cox, B. Sacramone and the finalists are D. Logiudice and L. Whelton.

Representing the Gemini cluster are: C. Augusto, M. Barr. B. Barrett, B. Cohen, P. Maguire, J. McCarthy, C. Rosario and B. Titus. The Gemini finalists are: A. Sta. Cruz and R. Zabala.

The spellers who competed in the Orion cluster are: K. Bettencourt, B. Mitchell, H. Belanger, J. Todd, K. Tufo, D. Masters, H. Marino and T. Costa. The finalists are: A. Royer and R. Gross.

From the Pegasus clusters, the finalists are: R. Ortiz, L. Gordon, T. Ho, D. Jacques, M. Govaert, B. Blake, J. Dorgan and E. Huskic. The cluster will be represented at the Championship bee by K. Almeida and Y. Lopez.

The Pisces spellers are: A. Fossa, L. Hufnagle, R. Chambers, P. Conway, B. Pope, K. Schrader, T. Braley and J. Ferreira. The Pisces finalists are S. May and I. Valencia.

Grade 6 clusters will come to the library this week for our final five bees. Ultimately, the Higgins Spelling Team will have 10 members from each grade level at the school. The Championship Bee is slated for Feb. 28 at the Northshore Mall.
