Two Peabody Teens Allegedly Pistol-Whipped at Super Bowl Party
Prosecutors say both victims were accused of stealing alcohol from the party and then hit over the head with a pistol.
Prosecutors say a 19-year-old Andover male pistol-whipped two other teens from Peabody during a Super Bowl party in Boston on Sunday night.
Kevin S. Macartney, of Andover, was charged with two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and unlawful possession of Class B and E drugs during his arraignment on Monday morning.
The drug charges were sought after police found 21 pills in an unlabeled bottle in Macartney's clothing when he was booked, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney's office.
The DA's office says the pills were believed to be Oxycodone, Focalin and Alprazolam.
The alleged assault occurred at the Residences at The Ritz-Carlton. The DA's office said the two male victims, also 19, suffered head injuries in the beating, which apparently stemmed from a dispute over alcohol.
The victims' names have not been released.
The DA's office says the Peabody teens spoke with Boston police officers Sunday night around 10:30 p.m., complaining they were attacked by a group of young men.
The victims said they were trying to leave the party when they were accused of stealing liquor. One of the accusers then hit both teens in the head with a handgun.
The DA's office says the officers and the victims then returned to the building and ran into a group in the lobby, out of which Macartney was identified. Police also discovered what looked to be traces of blood in the lobby, elevator, an upstairs hallway rug and inside the party room itself.
Macartney's bail was set at $5,000 and he is due to return to court on March 27.
