Shooting Victim Dies From Injuries

A 36-year-old Peabody man who was shot in Lynn on Tuesday has died from his injuries. Police are still investigating.

The Peabody man shot in Lynn Tuesday afternoon has died from his injuries, authorities say.

Ralph Iocco, 36, of 139D Shore Dr., Peabody, was admitted to Mass. General Hospital Tuesday, suffering from a gunshot wound. News reports Thursday morning said Iocco was listed in critical condition at the hospital, but later that day, District Attorney’s Office spokesman Steve O’Connell confirmed that Iocco’s injuries had proved fatal.

O’Connell told the Daily Item of Lynn that the investigation into the shooting continues and no charges have been filed yet by police.

Lynn police responded to 16 Newhall St. in their city around 2 p.m. on Nov. 29 after reports of shots fired. Officers arrived at the scene to find Iocco lying outside at the end of an alleyway situated at the corner of the apartment building and an adjoining parking lot, the Daily Item reported.

Iocco was taken first to Salem Hospital and later flown to Mass. General Hospital in Boston.

O’Connell had said police did not believe the shooting was random, but it was unclear what Iocco was doing there and what led up to the shooting.

The Daily Item reported that Iocco was known to police and had a criminal record, although there was no official confirmation given by police that his past record was linked to the shooting.

The Lynn department and state police assigned to the District Attorney’s office are continuing their investigation.
