There were just nine contestants left from the original 30 middle school students for the start of the sixth round around 8:15 p.m.

Thirty of the top spellers at Higgins Middle School took the stage at the Northshore Mall Wednesday night for the 3rd Annual Higgins Spelling Bee.
Things got underway promptly at 7 p.m. and lasted close to 9:30 p.m. before all three winners were determined.
Gabe Goldman won 1st place, followed by Stephen May and Andeemae Sims in 2nd and 3rd.
