Peabody police have announced that city officials are anticipating they will declare an emergency parking ban effective 8 a.m. on Friday.

A major blizzard is headed this way, starting Friday morning and lasting throughout the day on Saturday. The heaviest snowfall is projected for Friday night into the morning.

"Please make arrangements to have all vehicles off public roadways should the emergency parking ban become effective. Barring any unforseen changes in the expected snowfall, the ban is expected to be declared effective tomorrow as of 8 a.m. and continue until the event and cleanup efforts conclude," reads Thursday's alert.

The ban may be modified, depending on the weather patterns, and city officials are working on arranging alternative shelter for anyone who might need it during the storm.

The alert said further specifics should be released later in the day in regard to tracking the blizzard and a more detailed forecast.
