All aboard!
School Committee member Ed Charest makes for a rather tall elf.
Dave and Stephanie McGeney pause for a moment from the entertainment.

The first ever Peabody Polar Express arrived at Lt. Ross Park on Sunday and turned into a wild success, says Dave McGeney.

McGeney and his wife Stephanie were two of the main influences behind organizing the neighborhood holiday event, which provided an afternoon of fun for kids and families. There were free hayrides, Christmas carols, face-painting, Santa and even the Grinch.

"We didn't know what to expect," McGeney said, but the turnout ended up numbering in the hundreds. "It was a great time. The kids were smiling ear-to-ear."

He said the event also brought in more than $1,600 in donations, which will be distributed equally between the city's eight elementary schools to be given to the neediest families for Christmas.
