Mayor Ted Bettencourt paid special tribute to the city's World War II veterans Sunday in an inaugural annual breakfast for Veterans Day held at City Hall.

The packed event, which occurred prior to the formal ceremonies conducted later that morning outside City Hall, sought to honor all Peabody residents who served the United States in the armed forces and give special recognition to those of the "Greatest Generation."

This year's Veterans Day ceremonies were hosted by the Portuguese-American War Veterans.
