Peabody Mayor to be Honored by Temple Ner Tamid

Proceeds from dinner for Mayor Michael Bonfanti will be donated to Haven from Hunger.

Temple Ner Tamid of Peabody is pleased to announce that Peabody Mayor Michael J. Bonfanti will be honored at a dinner on Sunday, May 22, beginning at 5 p.m. at . A portion of the proceeds from the event will benefit the food pantry in Peabody.

 A lifelong Peabody resident, Mayor Bonfanti attended and graduated from . As a child from a family of limited income, Mayor Bonfanti worked in local tanneries to help support his family and save money to attend college. He graduated from Salem State College in 1967 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration.

Mike Bonfanti rose to the rank of deputy regional director during his 33-year career with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. before he retired in December 2000. After stints on the 's Board of Trustees and the , Bonfanti was elected mayor in 2002. Since that time, he has worked tirelessly to promote educational advancement, economic development and respect for others through tolerance.

"We are thrilled to honor Michael J. Bonfanti for his important contributions to our city government and his unwavering support for our Temple community.  I am particularly excited that this year we will not only be honoring Mayor Bonfanti for his many years of service, and fundraising for our synagogue, but raising money for Haven from Hunger, a local institution that truly needs our support," said Temple Ner Tamid President Scott Feinstein in a prepared statement.

Temple Ner Tamid is a vibrant Jewish congregation affiliated with the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism, located north of Boston in Peabody, MA.  Founded in 1959, Temple Ner Tamid’s  membership consists of more than 250 Jewish and Interfaith families and singles, living in Peabody, Danvers, Lynnfield, Middleton, Salem, and other surrounding communities.
