Peabody Man Arrested After Coffee Pot Dispute Boils Over

The following are excerpts from reports in the press log from Tuesday, Aug. 9 to Wednesday, Aug. 10.

Tuesday, Aug. 9

  • 2:09 p.m. A caller on Felton Street reported a possible break-in to his residence. Police said someone entered the home through a rear door. The homeowner was compiling a list of missing items.
  • 2:30 p.m. A female caller reported she had a confrontation with an unknown female who was driving a black SUV and when she (the caller) returned to her parked car after shopping at , she discovered someone keyed the driver's side door.
  • 3:47 p.m. Lawrence L. Bracero, 34, of 25 Harley Ave., Everett, was arrested at the , following a motor vehicle stop. He was charged on a warrant from Ayer District Court for larceny.
  • 4:09 p.m. A caller on Foster Street reported a past break-in to an apartment.
  • 6:28 p.m. A male resident reported that some items were stolen from his motor vehicle while it was at Arrington Towing on Webster Street. No further details were available.
  • 11:03 p.m. A caller on County Street reported a black motor vehicle struck his fence and then fled the area, possibly toward Lynnfield Street. Police said the vehicle hit a stone wall as well.
  • 11:04 p.m. An officer responded to a Walnut Street apartment to mediate a dispute about a damaged coffee pot. The initial reporting party in the situation called back at 11:28 p.m. to report his neighbor was causing a problem. The man allegedly fled the scene on foot and was taken into custody nearby. Scott M. Gilbert, 32, of 50 Warren St., Peabody, was charged with malicious destruction of property under $250, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and on two warrants from Salem and Woburn.
  • 11:44 p.m. Amid sudden heavy rainfall, roadways in low-lying areas began to flood. An officer said the roadway on Foster Street near the Peabody Market was flooding. DPS was notified.
  • 11:45 p.m. An officer said the roadway on Walnut Street near was also flooding. DPS was notified again.
  • 11:49 p.m. A caller reported his motor vehicle was stuck in high water at the corner of Roosevelt Avenue and Russell Street. 4-Star Towing was dispatched to the scene.
  • 11:57 p.m. The Fire Department reported another vehicle was stuck in high water on Walnut Street near . The road was shutdown due to the flooding and the car was towed from the scene.

Wednesday, Aug. 10

  • 12:30 a.m. A resident in the neighborhood of Tremont Street and Mount Vernon Street reported a transformer blew in the area, knocking out power. was notified.
  • 12:32 a.m. Police checked Foster, Crowninshield and Warren streets, due to the flooding in the area from the rain, and reported they were passable to traffic.
  • 12:38 a.m. Pumps in the Police Department's garage behind the station on Allen's Lane were running to keep the water out. Officers said the pumps turned off around 3:30 a.m.
  • 12:40 a.m. An officer said half of the roadway on Summit Street was starting to flood, especially from Centennial Drive to Christina Drive.
  • 12:41 a.m. A possible hit-and-run car accident was reported on Route 1 at Lake Street. An ambulance was requested at the scene and State Police took charge of the scene. No further details were available.
  • 12:43 a.m. Police said several vehicles drove into high water at the corner of Margin Street and Sheldon Road and became stuck. An officer said the drivers appeared to be waiting for the water level to subside.
  • 1 a.m. An officer reported the roadway near Pierpont Park was flooded.
  • 1:28 a.m. An officer requested that Endicott Street be closed off to traffic due to flooding. The officer noted the water levels had begun to recede, however.
  • 2:45 a.m. DPS reported a vehicle was stuck in high water on Lake Street near Route 1. DPS closed off that portion of Lake Street.
  • 3 a.m. An officer said the water level was beginning to rise again on Endicott Street.
  • 3:26 a.m. An officer said Crowninshield Street needed to be closed due to flooding.
  • 3:41 a.m. DPS closed off Sawyer Street due to flooding.
  • 9:04 a.m. A 73-year-old Holyoke woman was transported to Beverly Hospital and a 58-year-old Salem woman was taken to Salem Hospital after a two-car accident at the corner of Margin Street and Dobbs Road.
  • 11:19 a.m. Casella Waste Sysems Inc. on Forest Street reported four Dumpsters, worth $22,000, were recovered by police.
  • 11:48 a.m. A caller on Main Street reported a stolen car.
  • 1:08 p.m. A caller reported a car break-in on Walnut Street. Sunglasses and a GPS device were taken. There were no signs of forced entry.
  • 1:44 p.m. A caller on Florence Road reported an attempted break-in to her car. Police said nothing was missing and the two suspects -- a male and female known to the woman -- fled the area when the woman approached them. She said she would be seeking a court order.
  • 3:10 p.m. Michael J. Ruth, 23, of 8222 Kirkbride Way, Danvers, was arrested on Endicott Street in Danvers by a Peabody officer. Ruth was charged with failure to stop for police, a marked lanes violation, possession of a Class C drug and on a warrant from Lawrence. See .
