1 Victim to MGH After Shooting on Washington Street
Peabody police were at the scene of a shooting Thursday night in the downtown area. One victim was taken to a Boston hospital and detectives were searching for another man believed to be involved in the incident.
Peabody police were at the scene of a shooting at a Washington Street apartment Thursday night.
At approximately 8:55 p.m., a call came in of a shooting at 197 Washington St. with one victim. That person -- a male -- was taken by ambulance to Mass. General Hospital in Boston.
Police Lt. Arthur Yeo said Thursday night that the victim's condition was not life-threatening and it was unclear if the male actually lived at the address. The apartment was one of three units above D'Orsi's Bakery & Delicatessen.
Yeo said EMTs and officers arrived at the scene to find the person who dialed 911 with the victim. He said that, as of last night, there was one male whom police were searching for in order to question.
Yeo did not label that person as a suspect, saying detectives were still trying to determine his role in the incident; however, he did say the shooting did not appear to be a random act of violence.
No weapon was found at the scene.
Yeo said the incident was still actively under investigation and there would likely be further details available Friday morning.
