Men Spotted Wearing Capes, Masks Near Qdoba

The following excerpts are from reports in the Peabody Police Department press log from Feb. 10-12.

Friday, Feb. 10

  • 4:58 p.m. Employees at the Sunglass Hut, located in the Northshore Mall, reported six pairs of sunglasses were stolen.
  • 6:36 p.m. Police received a report of two males dressed all in black and wearing capes and Halloween masks out in the parking lot near Qdoba Mexican Grill. An officer said the pair was getting ready for the premiere of Star Wars: Episode I -- The Phanton Menace in 3D that night.
  • 7:10 p.m. Police responded to a report of a break-in to a Joyce Road home. Police said a bathroom window in the rear of the house was forced open, but nothing appeared to be missing.
  • 7:25 p.m. Police received a report of a past theft on Fifth Street.
  • 8:31 p.m. Greg Tremblay, 35, of 14 Harvard Ave., Saugus, was arrested on Lake Street near Puritan Lawn Cemetery for driving under the influence of drugs. Tremblay was also charged with speeding and license and registration not in possession.
  • 9:06 p.m. A caller on Crane Brook Way reported someone took a package that was delivered earlier by FedEx. The package contained three cell phones. Police said a person signed for the delivery as well, but no one by that name lived or worked at the complex.
  • 10:08 p.m. Police responded to a report of a campfire in or near Puritan Lawn Cemetery near the reservoir. The fire was spotted by someone at the water treatment plant. An officer said whoever lit the fire had doused it and fled before he could reach them.

Saturday, Feb. 11

  • 12:15 a.m. The father of a 17-year-old Peabody male reported his son was assaulted inside the Northshore Mall near the Cheesecake Factory around 9 p.m. The teen said he was punched in the side of the head by an unknown 18-year-old white male. The teen said he went home first and nothing was reported to the police until his father came to the station. The teen did not seek medical attention either.
  • 1:15 a.m. Jennifer A. Almeida, 27, of 6 Tremont Pl. #2, Peabody, was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. A caller had reported he was driving behind someone who hit a curb and popped a tire. Police stopped the car at the Tremont Pharmacy and took Almeida into custody.
  • 11:29 a.m. A caller on Pierpont Street reported a rock was thrown through her window.
  • 12:31 p.m. The Fire Department relayed a report of possible drug activity in the parking lot outside Hannaford's. The person said drugs and needles were possibly used inside a parked truck. The vehicle was gone when police arrived.
  • 12:45 p.m. State police reported they received a call from a person at Joe's American Bar & Grill, claiming he was threatened with a knife. Police said there was only a verbal dispute between coworkers and both people were sent on their way.
  • 12:47 p.m. A caller reported the rear window to his home on Fairview Avenue was broken while he was on vacation. No further details were available.
  • 1:16 p.m. Justin J. April, 33, of 1 Cabot Rd., Danvers, was arrested for domestic assault and battery, following a report of a incident at Pine Grove Mobile Park on Route 1. Police said there was a fight between family members over a bicycle.
  • 1:30 p.m. A caller reported the front door to a vacant home on Lynn Street was kicked in. No further details were available.
  • 1:48 p.m. A 53-year-old Topsfield woman was issued a summons for assault, following a report of road rage in the parking lot near Sears. No further details were available.
  • 2:17 p.m. A car break-in was reported at Pump it Up on Webster Street. The front passenger window of the car was smashed and a purse was taken. Police said an older model Honda Civic cased the lot around noon; the possible suspect was a male in dark clothing.
  • 5:49 p.m. A caller Elm Street reported the license plates were stolen off his vehicle.

Sunday, Feb. 12

  • 12:04 a.m. A caller reported two males were shooting paintballs at passing cars on Lowell Street at Southwick Road. One male then entered a house on the corner while the other left the area. Police checked the area but could not find anyone.
  • 12:09 a.m. Thomas P. Michaud, 50, of 27 Dunlap St., Salem, was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. A caller had reported a black Suburban was swerving across the road on Lynnfield Street near the Wardhurst Grille. The SUV was stopped by police at the corner of Washington and Aborn streets and Michaud was taken into custody. He was also charged with a marked lanes violation.
