Dennis C. Porter, 43, of Lynn, is also the main suspect in similar recent robberies in Salem, Beverly and Danvers, and is expected to face charges in those cases as well.
Porter was arraigned in Peabody District Court on Thursday for one count of armed robbery in the Peabody case and has pleaded not guilty, reports the Salem News.
Police say Porter entered the convenience store and gave the clerk a losing lottery ticket to scan before showing a weapon and making off with cash. A second man, Glenn Roderick, 41, of Peabody, is also charged with armed robbery in the case, but according to police, was the driver for Porter that night.
Porter also has a lengthy criminal record that includes a prior prison term for armed robbery and had apparently been camped out in a tent erected in a wooded area off routes 128 and 114 near Chandler's Ice Cream, according to the Salem News.
Porter was eventually caught Wednesday morning at a mobile home park on Route 1. The Salem News reports officers had to use a stun gun on him to prevent him from fleeing. In addition to armed robbery, Porter was also charged on a warrant for a probation violation.
He is due back in court Dec. 18.
