One Man Dead After Car Accident on Route 128
The fatal accident occurred early Tuesday night. Authorities believe the lone driver may have suffered a medical condition.
One man is dead after a car accident on Route 128 northbound Tuesday night in which the man's car left the roadway before coming to a stop in the woods.
At approximately 7:42 p.m., state police responded to Interstate 95 northbound at the Route 128 northbound exit ramp in Peabody.
The occupant of the motor vehicle, an adult male, was extricated from the vehicle and transported to Lahey Clinic North in Peabody, where he was pronounced deceased, according to state police spokesman David Procopio.
No other vehicles were involved in the accident and state police said there was minimal damage to the victim's vehicle.
"We are investigating whether he may have suffered a medical incident that led him to drive off onto the side of the road," Procopio said.
Police are withholding the identity of the victim pending family notification.
The ramp was closed to traffic for approximately two hours while emergency responders were at the scene.
The crash is being investigated by troopers from the Danvers state police barracks, the state police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the state police Crime Scene Services Section.
