Council on Aging Spotlights Elder Abuse

Seniors watched a play based on true stories of abuse.

Peabody seniors watched a dramatic performance about the horrors of elder abuse, during a program at the on Wednesday morning.

Council on Aging Director Carolyn Wynn introduced a cast of actors who performed the play "Breaking the Silence: Voices of Hope," written by Kelsey McCabe and based on true stories of elder abuse.

Wynn said the COA wanted to share the stories, including tales of emotional and physical abuse as well as financial victimization at the hands of friends or relatives.

"Each one of us has an obligation to know about abuse and where to turn for help," Wynn said.

Seniors were encouraged to contact the North Shore Elder Services for assistance and counseling in the case of abuse.
